Introduction to Heirloom Sew’n on your Sew’n Machine

Wednesday July 23

9:30 – 3:30

$30.00

You must take this introductory heirloom class before you can join our Heirloom club.

In this all day class you will explore the basics of heirloom sewing on the machine. Our goal is not to complete a garment or project during this session, but rather to learn techniques that will enable you to work on projects or garments of your choice at home. It will be necessary to have a good working knowledge of your sewing machine.  No particular brand or model of sewing machine will be required, only that you can produce a zigzag stitch, a straight stitch and hopefully a pin stitch.  Ask one of the store’s staff to guide you if you are unsure about the pin stitch. We will explore ways to attach lace to fabric, lace to lace, and lace to entredeux. We will also experiment with faggoting, puffing, and other ways to embellish our work. We will work toward learning to shape laces and will also do some twin needle pintucks as well as other tucks and fabric embellishments. If time allows we will sample a bit of shadow embroidery and bullion stitch embroidery.  These are hand embroidery techniques that are often incorporated into heirloom designs. There will be a kit fee
