Color Study

Thursday October 7

9:00 – 3:00

$35.00

Making decisions regarding color can be one of the toughest things to do when making a quilt!  Understanding strategies and principles about color and related color concepts can help make the experience less daunting and challenging. We will investigate such topics as value, texture, scale, harmonies and color schemes, intensity, color temperature, and dimension.  I will bring most of my stash for you to play with to help understand this complex subject.  You will make mockups of quilt blocks to help you experience these concepts. There will be lots of examples and visual aids to see, too!

Batting Sampler

Saturday October 23

9:30 – 3:30

$35.00

How many times have you made a quilt or wall hanging top and then weren’t sure what kind of batting to put in the quilt.  In this class we will take an Amish Bars wall hanging and put a variety of batting strips in it. You will learn about the various battings on the market, but the main things you need to know is how well does it needle, what will the quilt look like after you finish it, etc. We will also cover selecting quilting designs. Every student will get pieces of 9 different battings that they will sew together and sandwich between their Amish Bars top and the back. After you quilt your wall hanging you can use it as a reference tool in the future because you will make a diagram of where each piece of batting is in the quilt.  In this way you can look at each section of the wall hanging and see what the quilt looks like when a specific batting is used. If you have ever had questions about batting this is a class for you.
