This charming wall hanging, taught in 2 parts, features a variety of simple and fun techniques for both the beginner and experienced sewer/quilter. The flowers in the wall hanging are made with hexagons and are constructed using English Paper Piecing techniques. This project is just the right size for anyone interested in learning about this quilting style, but afraid of tackling a larger hexagon or paper piecing project. Other techniques taught will include applique and piecing. This project is suitable for all skill levels.
Requirements: | Fabric requirements: Light background - fat quarter Light tan for basket & border - 1/4 yard Burgundy for flowers & border - fat quarter Purple for flowers & border - fat quarter Gold for flowers & border - fat quarter Green for leaves - could be multiple scraps about 3" square OR a single fabric that is 3" X 21" Binding & border - 1/4 yard Batting & backing - 24" X 24" Centers of flowers can be made from one or more of the above fabrics, or if you prefer, another fabric can be used. You will need 13 scraps or enough fabric to cut thirteen 2" squares. Other supplies needed: 1/4 yard double sided fusible Thread, hand sewing needles, needle threader if you have one, rotary cutter & ruler Medium sized cutting mat - a large table and mat is available in the classroom, but you may want to bring one so that you can cut fabric at your desk) Template material; such as index cards, an 8" X 10" (or larger) piece of cardstock, or a file folder Paper scissors Pen or pencil Basic sewing supplies including fabric scissors Sewing machine in good working order, and the machine instruction manual if you have it. Your sewing machine will not be necessary for the first class, but will be needed for the second class. |
