Class Basic Sewing 1, Westminster store

Skills learned include straight and curved seams, zippers, using interfacing, decorative stitching drawstring casing and more.
Students will learn sewing machine basics using class machines provided.  No need to bring a machine to class!

Supplies/materials list provided at registration.

Week 1 - we will get to know the sewing machine and make a quick project, the GLASSES CASE, in the process. You will need:

Thread – GOOD QUALITY – neutral color like white or off white will come in handy for a lot of sewing projects.

1 “fat quarter” of soft cotton (18”X22” is a fat quarter) - this will be the lining of your glasses case and part of the outside. “Scrap” fabrics, a button and a hair tie will be provided, or you can bring your own...

Your basic sewing supplies (see list) that you will bring to each class.

Week 2 - PILLOWCASE – ¾ yd cotton fabric

¼ - 1/3 yd contrasting/coordinating fabric (NOT fat quarters)

2-3" of a contrast fabric (I will bring generics for this)

thread to coordinate with the main fabric

Week 3 – APRON - 2 yards of cotton fabric – 1 yard of two coordinating fabrics if you want it reversible

thread to coordinate

Week 4 – ZIPPER BAG – 2 coordinating or contrasting “fat quarters” (18”X22”)

12” or longer zipper (included in your kit)

thread (will show on the outside of your bag so it should coordinate)

lightweight interfacing (included in kit)

Week 5 – TRAVEL JEWELRY POUCH – 3 different but coordinating “fat quarters” (or ½ yard fabric and 1 fat quarter)

thread to match – it will show!

2 yd grosgrain or double-sided satin ribbon (included in kit)
