Class Viking Club - Chapter 7 - Fayetteville
This month we will focus on chapter 7 which focuses on Design Applique. We will learn how to use built-in shapes, numbers & letters to create appliques including proportional and non-proportional shaping. We will use these new techniques to create a fun fall banner to add to our décor. Other options for the project are to turn it into a fun pillow, wall hanging or go big and make a quilt. This will be completely customized to you by your choice of project, wording, shapes and fabric choices. The options are endless!
Requirements: In addition to your machine and the embroidery unit, you will want to bring a basic kit of sewing supplies to each class. Items you may need are: your machine manual, the embroidery design sample book for your machine, scissors, snips, pins, quilt clips, marking tools, needles, screwdriver, the feet for your machine, straight stitch plate & zig zag plate for your machine, sewing thread, embroidery thread, your embroidery hoops, filled bobbins, a seam ripper in case a friend needs it, etc...
For this month’s project you will need:
- 1/2 yard of tone on tone fabric for the background
- they used home dec weight, I used quilting cotton and batting to give mine a softer feel
- you could choose to use two different fabrics to make your banner reversible!
- 1/3 yard multicolor cotton print for the binding
- multiple color fabrics for your letters and shapes
(For HAPPY BIRTHDAY & four shapes, I used 1/3 yard each of three solid fabrics.)
- 1/2 yard Pellon SF101/no-show mesh if you have light colored solids that you’re placing in front of a print background
- light tear away stabilizer
- purchased pom-poms or yarn to make your own – optional!
- Embroidery thread
- bobbin thread
- 120 X 120 or larger hoop
- duckbill scissors, or your favorites for clipping around your embroidery appliques
- quilt binder for your machine – optional, this project can be made without it!
We will make a festive banner. If you’d prefer to create something else with your newly learned technique, your supply list may vary from this. Please, be sure to bring the supplies that you’ll need.
